AUCTION NOTE: This is our first Decorative Arts auction of the year and once again it will be three lengthy auctions to get through it all. There will be two estates that will play a large role in this auction; the first is the W. Clement Stone estate of Winnetka. It seems in anything that was written about Mr. Stone the name Horatio Alger is mentioned. He is the true American rags to riches story, getting into the insurance business with nothing at all in 1920. By the late 20s he formed the Combined Insurance Company of America and by 1930 he had over 1000 agents selling for him. The ideas that helped him achieve all this went into his best selling book "Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude". Over his hundred years here he was often quoted and one of our favorites was, "Be generous! Give to those you love; give to those who love you; give to the fortunate; give to the unfortunate - yes, give especially to those you don’t want to give. You will receive abundance for your giving. The more you give, the more you will have". These weren’t just words to him, it was how he lived, giving millions of dollars to several worthwhile charities We will be selling Mr. Stone’s estate over the next four monthly auctions. We also have the contents of a prominent Wilmette estate. This gentleman was a collector in several different areas including fine 18th & 19th Century English and American furnishings and fine Chinese porcelain. He had a very good eye for quality and we are fortunate enough to be able to find new homes for this lifetime of collecting.
Once again this will be a three-day auction with a portion of Saturday’s sale being offered on eBay Live as well as all of Sunday’s lots. The Oriental rugs will cross the auction block on Monday and will be also available on eBay.
